Who is Agent Advocates Limited
The company and this site has been set up by Chris O’Connor a Wellington based lawyer of 36 years general practice experience. Chris is a partner of the firm Strachan O’Connor, Johnsonville, Wellington and is a member of the Property Law section of the New Zealand Law Society.
He has served on the Council of the Wellington Branch of the New Zealand Law Society for the years 2012 – 2015.
Because of his extensive experience in conveyancing and real estate law a number of senior real estate agents raised issues of fairness and common sense in the determinations of the Complaints Assessment Committee (CAC) of the REAA. Many agents were extremely distressed at findings of misconduct where the circumstances of a case clearly did not support such a finding. If the agent were to challenge the finding he or she would be put to the considerable expense and stress of having to file an appeal.
Others had findings of unsatisfactory conduct for paltry matters published against their names soiling reputations built up over many years.
Just as real estate agents are accountable for their actions the decision makers at the REAA should be accountable for their actions. This is our aim.
